American Mobster - Murder of Herman "BCE" The Rosenthal

- 04.49

It was a general knowledge, early 20th century police officers were "taking" more often. However, the police officer was not sharply bent than the lieutenant Charles Becker, who is responsible for "Strong Arm Squad" in New York City in the early 1900s. Becker and his crew were supposed to remove villain cities such as gambling and prostitution, but in reality they were dealing with illegal facility owners. He will blindly look at their activities. Despite Becker's annual salary of only $ 2,250, he is reported to have accumulated more than $ 100,000 in property.

Herman "Bernie" Rosenthal is a very small song with a small distinction and less traction on the street. Every time Rosenthal opened a gambling house, it was closed in a few weeks. Finally, Rosenthal found his dream place on West 45th Street near Broadway. But this time, Rosenthal finally saw the light, he was nothing other than a lieutenant Charles Becker as a partner. This arrangement worked fine for a while, but New York mayor Mayor William Jay Gainer began to hear rumors that Becker might not work in the proper way. Mayor Gaynar started putting bolts into Becker. So Becker decided to make a big leap before it showed proper loyalty to the law. Becker knew that there was no one who cared about what happened to unmarried Rosenthal, so attack Rosenthal's gambling den, which was part of Becker, and Rosenthal's nephew I arrested.

Rosenthal told Becker that this is not the right way for "partners" to act. Becker told me not to worry. It was all the show for the mayor. Becker promised that the nephew of Rosenthal will be released shortly. However, Charles Whitman attorney did a different feeling. He soon pointed out some employees of Rosenthal, Rosenthal's nephew and Rosenthal's gaming center. Rosenthal looked at the double cross to the right. He ran straight to Whitman and spilled the beans about his relationship to Beker. At the beginning, as Whitman became inaudible and became Rosenthal, Rosenthal repeated his story to Herbert Bayer's soup, a criminal reporter of The New York World. Swope wrote a couple of articles about what Rosenthal said about the acts of the police station in New York City who ultimately caused Whitman to take a strong action.

On 16th July 1912, Rosenthal was to be testified in front of the grand jury. Becker knew that he had the danger of going to prison for a long time, so contact the Big Jack Zelig, who thought the police to handle the situation in Rosanhar, "the most dangerous person in New York City" did. The price was 1000 dollars, Zelig underwritten the work to four of the best men. Harry "Gyp the Blood" Horowitz, Frank "Whitey Lewis" Muller, Lewis "Lefty" Rosenberg, Frank "Dago Frank" Ciroficci.

As I testified at 2 am in the morning, Rosenthal just finished eating in the Hotel Metropole dining room on West 43 rd Street. When he stepped into the warm night sky, four armed groups shot Rosenthal with lead and ran away with a fleeing car. Within an hour, Sloff woke up from Becker in a deep sleep, and Becker immediately started investigating the murder case of Rosenthal. It was Zelig who was first arrested and he immediately spilled the beans and impressed Becker. Four musketeers were hiding, but they were caught in a few weeks.

Based on the testimony of Zelch, on July 29, 1912, Becker was arrested for the homicide of Herman "BCE" Rosenthal. But Becker had a long tentacle even from prison. His next move was to confirm that Zoellig had not testified against him at court. On the 5th of October 1912, the day before he officially challenged Becker, Zelig died in a street car by "Red Phil" Davidson.

Even without Zelig, the case of Becker and the four murderers was too strong. All five were judged to die in a singing prison electric chair, convinced and sentenced. The four men died on April 13, 1914, but Becker will not give up without a fight. The last chance to save his life was an appeal of apology to the new governor just as Charles Whitman (who arrested Becker and charged his case). Whitman refused to commute his sentences and Becker was shocked in July of 1915.

Becker tried to hear the last word from his grave when his wife ordered the silver plate to be attached to the coffin. "Charles Becker was murdered on July 13, 1915.

Before Becker's body was dropped onto the ground, the silver plate was taken away by the state police.
