One of the most frequently asked questions I actually get with immigration law is whether individuals are eligible to naturalize in the United States. The answer is not always simple. In this article, I hope to condemn the process to a certain extent.
Very generally, if you are not a US citizen by birth (as a result of being born in a US citizen or the US), you may still be a US citizen through the naturalization process. The following are the basic requirements of naturalization classified into categories.
1. Green Card . You are at least 18 years of age and are legal permanent residents of the United States (green card holders) and for at least 5 years (if you marry a US citizen you will be shortened to 3 years).
2. Armed forces .
a. You belong to the US Army and have worked for at least a year.
b. You are at least 18 years old in less than a year to the US military.
c. You served active army forces in one of the major US wars from the era of World War I to the present. Egypt
d. You are over 18 years of age and married a US citizen who died during the honorable working hours of the US military.
3. United States State . You are at least 18 years of age and are (a) a citizen of the United States and (b) a resident of any country.
Four. Service to ship . You are at least 18 years of age and are working on vessels operated by the United States or ships registered in the United States and owned by US citizens or corporations.
Five. work .
a. You are at least 18 years old, an employee, or otherwise contract with the US government.
b. You are at least 18 years of age and are doing leadership activities for religious or non-ethnic groups with valid presence in the United States.
c. You are at least 18 years of age, (a) a US research institution admitted by Attorney General, (b) a US company engaged in foreign trade / commerce transactions in the United States. Egypt (c) Public international organizations that the United States is a member of by law or treaty. Egypt
d. You are at least 18 years of age and have been employed for at least 5 years mainly by a nonprofit organization in the United States promoting through overseas US interests and communication media.
6. Spicer . You are at least 18 years old and are spouses of one of the following US citizens:
a. A member of the US military.
b. The above # 5 (a).
c. The above # 5 (b).
d. The above # 5 (c).
Under these categories of eligibility,
1. Have a good moral character.
2. Have English and US citizen knowledge.
3. I swear allegiance to the US Constitution.
4. You may be able to prove legally permanent residence in the United States for the specified period.
5. You may be able to prove your existence continuously in the United States for the specified period.
6. It may be located within a certain state or within the USCIS Service Center area for the specified period. And
7. When petitioning as a spouse of a US citizen, it may be necessary for you to be qualified for at least a year with your spouse at the time of submitting your identity card.
Some of the above requirements, such as "continuous residence" and "good moral character", have their own guidelines to be satisfied. These guidelines are beyond the scope of this article.
If you judge that you are qualified for naturalization you can ask for advice from a qualified immigration attorney. Applying for naturalization of the United States when you are not eligible is a waste of time and money. If you are ready to submit your naturalization application, please check the latest form and procedure on the USCIS website. The laws and regulations of the US immigration law have been consistently changing.
