Traffic accidents are one of the main reasons for American casualties. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, car accidents occur almost every 8 seconds. Throughout the state of Oklahoma, thousands of people die each year due to a car accident, and more people are severely injured. As cities such as Oklahoma State continue to expand, population growth and traffic activities are intensely crowded. Due to this traffic jam, the lives of drivers and pedestrians are in danger, leading to negligence or severe driving.
During 2009 alone, the Oklahoma state police corresponded to a number of incidents, and this number 564 occurred in the city's leading ten dangerous intersections. All these 10 intersections are on the west side where the traffic is very heavy. Three of the most dangerous intersections are Pennsylvania Street and Memorial Road, Interstate 240, Memorial and Northwest Expressway, and NW 63.
Last year, about 93 car accidents occurred at Pennsylvania Avenue and the Memorial Road intersection. It included injuries, hits and runs, drug-related, non-injurious, drunk driving. At the intersection of NW 63 and the Northwest Expressway there were 63 car crashes in 2009 and claimed the third reason that Memorial and Interstate 240 is the most hurting intersection in Oklahoma.
According to a newly published survey, 81% of traffic accidents occurring in this city were found to be negligent driving. In some cases, the driver may seem to concentrate on other things in what is happening on the road. Under other circumstances, the driver may get drunk with drugs or alcoholic beverages. The result of an automobile accident may be not only death but also long-term injury. In a safer driving practice, the result may have been avoided. Oklahoma City police have recommended installing infrared cameras in higher accident areas to reduce the amount of driver who runs red lights, perhaps to stop future accidents.
