My husband and I were having a quick breakfast at an unfamiliar restaurant waiting for the door to open in a nearby museum. Since I drank coffee, I started to understand why I was not comfortable. It was not only because we were away from home on Sunday's breakfast.
Very quickly, I recognized that all the people who serve us, waiting for the staff from the greeters are young and white. I looked into the kitchen and confirmed what I was guessing. The invisible people who work backflies were doing low salary work, Latin America, African Americans, various age groups. Does this restaurant get my return business? Probably not.
After that, my friend and I were talking about the diversity of employment. She told me the same story. While walking, she saw an advertisement advertising in the window of a local breakfast shop "... a restaurant needs a morning HOSTESS."
Title VII of the 1964 civil rights law prohibiting employment discrimination based on human rights, color, religion, sex and nationality seems to have not gotten it yet when appraising advertisements and other problems Employees are families You have the right to use the Medical Leave Act or the right to allow sexual harassment at work.
Employees understand. In the last three years, related employment discrimination litigation has increased by 77%.
Discrimination problems may be difficult to understand. There are lots of gray areas. However, the prohibition of basic employment practices based on federal government protected classes is far easier to understand. Employers can not make hiring or dismissal decisions based on human race, color, religion, sex, or nationality.
The restaurant Joan finds obviously is seeking a large man of diverse races to greet its customers. This is obvious from their announcement and restaurant managers will probably find the hostess that he or she is seeking.
However, if the store manager adheres to the citizenship law and gives appropriate notifications, is not that uncomfortable for all customers and potential employees of the restaurant? Do you have phrases like Glicator or Host / Hostess?
They may still hire female hostesses that they seem to want. But again, they can find those who expand their search and appeal to the crowds of their morning coffee as truly new greeters. The good thing about doing this right at the outset is that there is no problem that business violates federal, state, and local laws.
When trying to appeal to the constantly changing population today, and tomorrow, business never loses opportunities.
According to the Pew Research Center and figures of the US Census, it is shown that in the next 40 years, about one in five Americans become immigrants.
The Latin American who is already the largest minority group in the United States already tripled, accounting for 29% of the US population. Black citizens will be 15% of the population, Asian Americans will be about 9% of all citizens.
Until the middle of the 21st century the United States will become racially and ethnically diversified as well as older. One in five people will be older than 65 years old.
By using non-discriminatory advertisements and other equitable practices, businesses will show all of the marketing possibilities to more and more customers while using a wide range of employee talent and skills.
Some say that concerns about signs in the window may be showing political correctness too. But I really do not think so. It shows basic employment practices and compliance.
Now, I would like to see their practice again at the restaurant where Fred and I was drinking coffee. As a customer, we would enjoy seeing paying not only for white but also for people of various backgrounds as our money is young.
It is hard to find a job recently, and everyone has an equal opportunity.
