After announcing that I will switch law firms several months ago, I met many congratulatory questions and some questions. However, the unexpected reaction to this announcement is still in my mind. Do not you think that doing this change was a bit late for your career?
I have over 30 years of legal experience but I do not think that I am ready for retirement. But this question encouraged me to think about the role of age in the legal world.
From my experience, I acknowledged that the legal field allows "old" experts and even puzzles it. A skilled lawyer is often thought and considered to be highly appreciated. This is because lawyers are cumulative and experience is very important.
Indeed, according to the American Bar Association's annual lawyer demographics, according to a report from 2014, the average age of registered lawyers in the country is rising. The average age is now 49 years, increasing from 39 years old in 1980 to 45 years old in 2000. In addition, 28% of lawyers belong to the age group of 45 to 54 years old, 21% belong to the age group of 55 to 64 years old, 13% belongs to the group over 65 years old.
The majority of our lawyers are elderly groups. This means that with my observation, you are maintaining your position as a lawyer in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and even the lawyers. Therefore, regardless of your age or years of experience, it is necessary to keep what is currently and related in the legal world.
In order to make the game successful, you must always be aware of legal marketing goals. In my opinion, all lawyers have to make marketing and business plans, but they seem to be different depending on the special circumstances of each lawyer.
One of the many factors to consider is your age and experience. For example, as a new member of the legal world, you need to plan both short and long term. How are you going to develop a positive reputation and win customers?
The first year of your career is to gain experience and inform yourself through the legal world. You can join Bar Association activities and various charities. Participate in legal committees and organizations and participate in networking events.
In addition, young lawyers sell different services from experienced lawyers. Young lawyers may sell themselves by emphasizing the possessive qualities and features while neglecting the person they are working for. Examples include aggressive or sensitive attorneys, being less expensive, being associated with experienced attorneys or famous companies.
As attorneys advance career and become skilled, their strategy needs to change. It is important to continuously review and update the marketing plan according to age, experience, and goals.
Lawyers can work in our professionals, so it is imperative to stay on your game even after successful practice. Regardless of how many business you have, it is still essential to remain current. As a skilled lawyer you can probably not be focused on concentrating on maintaining your name and reputation, as you are already certified by name.
I sometimes stumble over collections and other lawyers. Websites and the BIOS on the internet and its website. I am surprised that several lawyers spent years without adding new experiences. The attorney's CV reflects a lot of achievements, and even if it is not years, if not years old, a message is sent that the attorney is not currently involved. Whether they just neglected to update their online profile, or even if they have not actually participated in recent years, they do not make the most of their skills and experience.
There are many outlets that are active actively, such as writing articles for statutory publications, discussing them, participating in committees.
Personally, it is useful to aim at least one current activity every calendar year. For example, I have continued involvement in legal cases. We always try to share our online experience.
Recently, I approached my acquaintance who found my bio online. He expressed how I was impressed by my recent efforts and invited me to join an exclusive networking group without a family law attorney. My commitment to maintaining my activities has made it possible for me to continue to grow successfully in my practices and customer base.
As a lawyer, we are extremely fortunate to be able to work and become a member of an esteemed respect as an elderly expert. It is important to plan this and make the most of it.
