Legislation generally requires overtime compensation if you require or allow an employee to work more than 40 hours a week. Calculation of overtime allowance is usually calculated over half of the employee's hourly wage, regardless of employee salary, over time. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) includes several of the above exceptions. Employees are encouraged to study this issue in more detail on the Labor Department website.
Calculating overtime is easy for employees currently working at hourly rates. It only makes a hourly wage 1.5 times.
For example, an employee who is running $ 14.50 for more than 40 hours a week will simply use the following formula: [14.50 * 1.5 = $ 21.75]. All overtime work should be paid at a rate of 21.75 dollars per hour.
Calculating salary employee overtime hours is a slightly complicated method. As an example, a qualified employee earns $ 32,000 per year.
• First, divide the salary of each year by 52 and decide weekly salary. [32,000 / 52 = approximately $ 615.38]
• Divide weekly salary by 40 to determine salary per hour and round it to the third decimal place (over 0.005) or below (0.004 or less). [615.38 / 40 = $ 15.38]
• We divide the hourly wage into two. [15.38 / 2 = $ 7.69]
• Add the above quotient to hourly wage. [15.38 + 7.69 = $ 23.07]
In the above case, you need to pay a fee of $ 23.07 per hour for over 40 hours per week. However, with a few exceptions, bonuses and fees paid to employees should be used to calculate regular salaries. In other words, calculating your overtime allowance will add bonuses as part of your salary.
Employees may not recognize that they are eligible for overtime work. According to FLSA, the following is considered as the time the individual is working.
• Telecommuting or telecommuting
• Employee training sessions
• Time spent on dispute resolution meeting, time waiting for work, or time taken on site
• Talk time, possibly
• 5 to 20 minutes break
